THE VOICEBOX PROJECT
How The Voice Box Project ("The Cube") Came To Be
On one grey September day in 2008 I met a stranger in a coffee shop across from my school, Regis University, in Denver. I helped him figure out his WiFi situation and he returned the favor by buying me a cup of coffee over a brief chat. Our chat became intense and went on for hours until he looked me in the eye and asked what one thing or project I would do to make necessary changes in my world. I couldn't answer such a deep question on the spot, so I took a week to brainstorm and came up with the Cube idea.
I've been consumed with The Voice Box Project, a platform for freedom of expression for everyone, these past ten months. This project is not for school, and not about money; it's a tool for personal and political expression for everyone! I have stayed in contact with that stranger, who has since became our sponsor with Youth Venture, which is a part of the Social Entrepreneur program of Ashoka.
The Cube provides the opportunity and medium to freely speak your mind artistically as a community project that is Race, Age, Gender, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, Nationality neutral and Handicap accessible. This cube is a visual and physical representation of the auditory Speaker's Corner in London's Hyde Park.

Motivation for this came out of witnessing the various efforts of public political expressions during the Democrat National Convention in Denver, where some of the marches were permitted and peaceful and others were not.
I was personally crushed Monday the 25th of August when I learned first hand my first amendment right doesn't actually exist. I witnessed Denver Police pepper spraying and hitting peaceful protesters with peace signs in the air. What law was broken? Both permitted and non-permitted marches had important messages to convey. We want to create an opportunity for people to get their messages heard to the public in a safe and open way.
